Soleron Energy has reached the next level: our aggregated portfolio now includes 4 MW of capacity that has successfully passed prequalification and is offered 24/7 to the frequency reserves market. In August 2025, we completed the integration with the capacity market module, which enables us to earn additional revenue during hours when balancing services are not required. By the end of the year, we forecast at least 20 MW of capacity – a significant step that demonstrates both the technical capability of our software and the growing interest of businesses in the frequency market.
How does the capacity market work?
Elering, as the system operator, has the primary responsibility of ensuring security of supply – it must be constantly prepared to respond to potential failures and disturbances by maintaining reserves that can be quickly activated. For this purpose, the market is used to procure readiness for both upward and downward regulation, offering electricity producers and storage owners an additional opportunity to earn revenue.
Battery storage systems are ideal controllable units, able to participate in the market both as producers and consumers. To participate in the capacity market, we submit bids for available resources, which also entails the obligation to submit balancing market offers and to activate capacity when a balancing order is received. Participation in the capacity market is compensated by the system operator, directly increasing the revenue earned for our clients.
